Occupational therapy professionals employ a quality-focused philosophy in their role of helping prepare individuals for a return to the home environment or work place after a debilitating illness or injury. The occupational therapist evaluates each patient to determine his or her level of ability to complete activities of daily living (such as hygiene, transferring from standing to bed; to tub/shower and toilet; dressing skills), upper extremity strength, and coordination and joint motion; and functional safety for independent living. Customized treatment programs are developed, with input from patient and family involving a plan of care and goals. The patient’s progress is re-evaluated at appropriate intervals and the program modified.
Occupational therapy services performed by staff are directed by physician referral for the acute hospital inpatients, outpatients, as well as patients admitted to the Transitional Care Center and The Rehabilitation Center. Outpatient services include: pediatric care, treatment of autism, PDD, sensory integration disorder, sensory hypersensitivity, fine motor developmental delay, feeding disorders, hand and wrist injuries, amputation rehabilitation, lacerations and contusions; nerve injury and/or surgery; fractures; soft tissue injuries, neurological conditions (such as stroke recovery), cognitive and neuromuscular deficits, and diagnosis of multiple sclerosis or Parkinson's diseases.
Patients are seen by appointment only, and must have a physician referral and authorization (if required by insurance) in order to be seen.
