Depending on the situation, patients may experience the services offered at one of our four inpatient settings. The specific type of orthopaedic procedure performed, and the overall condition of the patient, will determine if your stay will be in either the Orthopaedics Center or the Joint Care Center with possible follow-up care in the Rehabilitation Center or the Transitional Care Center.
The Orthopaedics Center is where patients receive treatment for orthopaedic conditions other than total joint replacements. Located adjacent to the Joint Care Center, our goal at both centers is to help you bounce back to your normal active state as quickly as possible with minimal pain and optimal care.
The Joint Care Center is the Hospital's newest orthopaedic department which focuses strictly on total joint replacement. By grouping knee patients, hip patients, and shoulder patients together, a structured and activity-filled stay provides support and goal-sharing through group involvement.
The Rehabilitation Center is a comprehensive physical rehabilitation unit designed to increase strength, movement, and independence. If a physician recommends a short stay in the Rehabilitation Center, patients can expect intense services which include three hours of therapy a day, for at least five days. The Rehabilitation Center is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
The Transitional Care Center (TCC) is a fully licensed and regulated, 50-bed skilled nursing care unit located on the First Floor of The Reading Hospital for Post-Acute Rehabilitation. The TCC provides skilled medical and rehabilitation services that act as a transition – or bridge – between acute care and home. The center is staffed by our Internal Medicine physicians, with consultations to RPS Physiatry as needed.
