Tony Martin, MD, Family MedicineI was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Go Steelers! I decided to go into medicine because I always had a curiosity about how the body worked. I decided to come to The Reading Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program because of the extremely supportive attendings, the opportunity to explore personal interests in medicine, and the top notch sports medicine program, which allows hands-on experience with team coverage and musculoskeletal medicine. Not only is the nursing staff extremely helpful, they’re also a lot of fun! I enjoy physical fitness, boxing, Tae Kwon Do, reading, cooking, and any outdoor activity. |

Jeff Wang, MD, Family MedicineI was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ. I attended The College of New Jersey for undergrad and Temple University for medical school. At the start of med school, I always had an inkling that I would go into family medicine. After enjoying most of my 3rd year rotations, it seemed like it was the obvious choice for a career. We see anything and everything, which makes every day an adventure. One day, I had "Chief complaint - piranha bite" on my schedule! The Reading program provides an incredible environment in which to live and learn, and we serve patients from urban, suburban, and rural areas. Our program is just like a family – we’re always looking for a reason to have a party, and always help each other become better physicians and people. My interests include movies, fly fishing, cooking, and spending time with my wife and new daughter. |

Sana Hanafi, MD, Family MedicineI was born and raised in Islamabad, Pakistan. Being able to relieve suffering and pain has always been rewarding for me, and medicine provides this opportunity. I chose The Reading Hospital Family Medicine Residency, because I was looking for a place where I could learn to practice the full scope of Family Medicine with a lot of hands-on experiences in a friendly and supportive environment. My search led me to The Reading Hospital, and I’m glad to be a part of it. The environment is conducive to learning and professional growth. The residents, faculty, and staff are a great team to work with. I enjoy traveling, arts and crafts, and spending time with my family. |

Samantha Cunningham, DO, Family MedicineI grew up in the VERY tiny town of Wellsboro, located in north central Pennsylvania, where there are lots and lots of deer and very few people! It was this “small town” atmosphere that shaped my desire to practice medicine, especially family medicine. In Wellsboro, the term family doctor still carries some of the 1950’s quintessential characteristics. Because there is a tremendous shortage of physicians, especially specialists, family doctors act as the OB-GYN, dermatologist, and psychiatrist. Up until a few years ago, family doctors even served first assist on surgical cases for their patients. My interest in science and fascination with the mechanism of disease made medicine a natural career choice. Growing up with a physician who managed almost all aspects of my care along with taking care of my grandmother and mother made me fall in love with Family Medicine. Then there’s the added benefit that primary care doctors are able to practice preventive medicine, helping to prevent not just treat disease. I chose The Reading Hospital for my residency because it has the atmosphere of a small community hospital with a Level II Trauma Center. And because of its location, the patient population ranges from local farmers to inner city ethnic groups. The staff and residents are unbelievably helpful and always willing to teach, constantly encouraging my medical training. It is this friendly, family atmosphere that most attracted me to the residency; I truly believe it would be impossible for me to find a better group of people to work with. When not practicing medicine, I enjoy bicycling, kayaking, reading, and cooking. |
