At The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, our Behavioral Health Services are designed to help people gain the skills necessary to deal effectively with life issues and concerns. We offer comprehensive inpatient and outpatient mental health, drug and alcohol, and dual diagnosis services.
The Reading Hospital is a vital community resource that provides a complete, cost-effective continuum of behavioral health services. Our programs are designed to help people of all ages find improved emotional stability and wellness. We have a wide range of specialized services. Our staff can deal with psychiatric emergencies, or simply help when current coping styles do not work.
Our behavioral health programs include outpatient and inpatient care, partial hospitalization, dual diagnosis, and drug and alcohol treatment. We can provide any level of support, whether the need is for immediate intensive intervention, or when the need is for focused professional support while continuing with work and family life.
The everyday problems we all face but sometimes cannot handle are the focus of our healing efforts. When normal patterns of coping no longer seem effective, outpatient care offered by The Reading Hospital Center for Mental Health is often the best approach. We help clients find relief from symptoms and help them to function effectively as quickly as possible. Typically, clients begin with an evaluation and the development of a customized treatment plan.
Depending on individual needs, services may include a wide range of treatment approaches, including:
Specific drug and alcohol programs include: detoxification, short-term residential care, outpatient addiction services, and dual diagnosis care. Treatment services include: individualized counseling and evaluation, structured treatment planning, family sessions, group therapy, aftercare programs, and codependency services.
Our Addiction Hotline is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week by calling 610-988-8186.
Adults find support in dealing with a wide range of personal issues, such as life changes, functional effectiveness, personal growth, self-esteem, relationships, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, phobias, and job-related difficulties.
Couples learn to communicate more effectively, solve problems, and identify and fulfill needs. We also help with parenting problems, difficulty in restructuring roles, and rebuilding relationships. We help families learn to work together to restore balance and communication.
Children and teens learn to deal with changes, losses, family problems, peer relationships, and school and behavior problems. Our staff provides support for enhancing self-esteem and developing social skills. We help clients deal with problems ranging from adjustment difficulties to learning problems, including attention deficit disorder and other developmental issues.
Our Behavioral Health Services staff actively participates in the community, providing a variety of services to schools, colleges, nursing homes, assisted living centers, businesses, and community groups. We are closely involved with numerous employee assistance programs, through which we offer our services to businesses. Quest Employee Assistance Program provides confidential counseling services to help employees and their immediate family members identify and resolve problems that may be affecting them either at work or in their personal lives. Our staff provides additional services throughout many other departments of the Hospital, including nursing units, the Emergency Care Unit, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Pain Management Center, Post-Acute Continuum, the Family Health Care Center, Hemophilia Clinic, and the Internal Medicine Department.
Additional community services include drug and alcohol treatment services through satellite offices in Kutztown and Birdsboro. Behavioral health assessments are also completed at the Berks County Juvenile Detention Center. We are also available to provide workshops, seminars, and training to community, corporate, and school groups on such topics as stress management, optimal functioning in the workplace and home, prevention of drug and alcohol abuse, time management, personal growth issues, and more.
