Neonatal Intensive Care

Special Care for Special Babies

Newborn babies who need intensive medical attention are often admitted into a special area of the Hospital called the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Located on the second floor of R-Building, our 22-bed Level III NICU combines advanced technology and trained healthcare professionals to provide specialized care for the tiniest patients.

Our compassionate staff members provide a warm, caring atmosphere for baby and families alike. Parents, grandparents, and baby's siblings are welcome to visit (with limitations during flu season). Many families keep in touch with us for years after leaving the NICU, continuing the bond that was created during their stay here.

The Reading Hospital NICU is recognized for participation in the Vermont Oxford Network, a national network formed to evaluate quality care and outcome of neonatal care.

Our dedicated team includes three fellowship-trained board certified neonatologists, a certified neonatal nurse practitioner, and a team of highly skilled nursing, respiratory, physical therapy, and lactation professionals. We perform all lab work and IV's within our unit; our treatment modalities include Dräger ventilators, oscillators, and photo therapy.
