Explore the Possibilities of an Internship in Clinical Psychology at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center!
The Predoctoral Psychology Internship Program provides clinical training in the practice of psychology in a community mental health setting. Interns receive a wide range of supervised clinical experience in three primary clinical rotations. Throughout each rotation, you will work with outpatient clients and conduct inpatient psychological assessments. You may also elect to work in drug and alcohol treatment, with biofeedback, and in other specialty areas.
During the Inpatient Rotation, interns conduct psychotherapy and psychological testing, and serve on a multi-disciplinary treatment team working closely with an assigned psychologist and psychiatrist (adult and adolescent specialties available). Responsibilities include providing individual and family psychotherapy as indicated, developing treatment plans, and assisting in discharge planning. Interns co-lead psychotherapy groups for adult and adolescent patients.
Outpatient caseload: approximately 6 hours per week.
On the Partial Hospital Rotation, interns co-facilitate groups, and participate in all phases of assessment, treatment, and discharge planning in the adult partial program. As an intern, you will participate in a variety of group experiences (i.e., group psychotherapy, psycho-educational groups, community lunch, and therapeutic activity groups) during program hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The intern will also conduct intake assessments.
Outpatient caseload: approximately 12 hours per week.
During the Outpatient Rotation, your primary responsibility will be conducting individual, family, and couples psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds. Interns' experience consists of a combination of treatment modalities (e.g., group, individual, or family) or evaluations. You are encouraged to attend the on-site psychiatric evaluations of your patients. A unique aspect of this rotation is the option to work closely with the former Chief of Psychiatry in conducting forensic evaluations.
Outpatient caseload: approximately 18-24 hours per week.
