Palliative Care Program

The Palliative Care Program at The Reading Hospital is a service for patients and families facing a serious or life-threatening illness. Our specially trained doctors, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and dietitians make patients as comfortable as possible while supporting both the patient and the family.

Palliative Care services include:

• Treatment to relieve pain and other symptoms
• Patient and family counseling
• Emotional and spiritual support
• Help in planning for care after the Hospital stay
• Help with treatment choices and decisions
• Referral to bereavement counseling

The Palliative Care team works with the patient's doctor to provide care during any phase of illness, even during active treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation. A physician referral is required for this service, which is limited to inpatients at The Reading Hospital.
