The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval  

The Reading Hospital and Medical Center was awarded Disease-Specific Care Certifications for both Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Pneumonia by the Joint Commission on October 2. These initial certifications will remain effective until December 2010.

The Reading Hospital and Medical Center is the recipient of the HealthGrades 2009 Distinguished Hospital AwardTM - Clinical Excellence which means we are ranked among the top 5% of all hospitals in the nation for overall clinical performance.

2009 Gold - Get With The Guidelines   

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognizes The Reading Hospital and Medical Center with a GOLD Achievement Award for achieving sustained performance for 3 years. This award recognizes the Hospital's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.

 

Get With the Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Performance Achievement Award    

The Reading Hospital and Medical Center received the Get With the Guidelines–Heart FailureTM Gold Performance Achievement Award from the American Heart Association. The recognition signifies that the Hospital has reached the goal of treating heart failure patients with compliance for two years to core standard levels of care as outlined by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology secondary prevention guidelines for heart failure patients.

Voluntary Hospitals of America APEX award   

The Reading Hospital and Medical Center has received APEX (Achieving Patient Care Excellence) Awards from Voluntary Hospitals of America for:

  • Greater than 90 percent compliance with Heart Failure Core Measure indicators
  • 0 cases of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia for 13 consecutive months in SICU
  • 0 cases of catheter-related bloodstream infections for six months in MICU
 HRSA National Medal of Honor   The Reading Hospital and Medical Center has received the 2008 Organ Donation Medal of Honor. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) gives The Reading Hospital this national award for having achieved organ donation rates of 75% or higher in a 12-month period.
2008 Alliance Innovation Award    The Reading Hospital has been named a 2008 Alliance Innovation Award winner. The Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers (AIAMC) presents the award on an annual basis to its institutional members that best exemplify creative and innovative approaches to medical education and research which result in better patient outcomes.
     
 ASBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence   The Reading Hospital Weight Management Center has been named an American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The ASBS Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.
Pennsylvania Certification Board     The Reading Hospital Drug and Alcohol Center received the Program of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) a private, non-profit corporation, which offers voluntary state-level credentialing to the substance abuse and other behavioral health professionals.

 People's Choice - Who's Who in Berks County   The Reading Hospital and Medical Center was selected as top hospital for 2007 by the people of Berks County in Berks County Living magazine's "People's Choice - Who's Who in Berks County" program.
 Commission on Cancer American College of Surgeons   The Regional Cancer Center was granted a three-year approval with Commendation by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. A facility receives a three-year approval following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor during which the facility demonstrates a Commendation level of compliance across several standards. The standards represent the full scope of the cancer program and include cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach, and quality improvement.
     
 American Association of Blood Banks  

The Reading Hospital has achieved accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks for a period of two years following an intensive on-site assessment of the Hospital's blood bank. By granting accreditation, it has been determined that the Hospital meets, or exceeds the level of medical, technical, and administrative performance standards set by the AABB.

 Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities  

The Rehabilitation Center at The Reading Hospital has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for a period of three years. This accreditation is for both the Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Program and the Stroke Specialty Program. The Center also received 18 commendations for special areas of programming.

 

 The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval   The Reading Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for stroke care and has been awarded Primary Stroke Center Certification by The Joint Commission.
 2007 Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery  

The Weight Management Center at The Reading Hospital meets the criteria established by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association for participation in the Blue Centers for Bariatric Surgery. Designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric SurgerySM, the Weight Management Center distinguishes itself as leader in weight loss surgery by demonstrating better outcomes and consistency of care.

The Reading Hospital Regional Heart Center meets the criteria established by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association for participation in the Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac CareSM. The Regional Heart Center has demonstrated our commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for cardiac patients.

 The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval   The Reading Hospital has been awarded Joint Commission Disease Specific Certification - Heart Failure Program for a two-year period beginning September 26, 2007.
 The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval   The Joint Commission granted The Reading Hospital full accreditation following an unannounced survey during the week of April 10, 2006.
 Pennsylvania Medical Society    The Pennsylvania Medical Society approved full accreditation of the Continuing Medical Education Program at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, without joint sponsorship privileges, for a period of six years ending on February 28, 2011. Surveyors reported that the CME Program at The Reading Hospital and Medical Center is an “exemplary program and would be a role model for other programs.” The Commission on Continuing Medical Education commended the program on achieving this excellent rating. A six-year accreditation represents the highest level of achievement in the CME industry.
