
For over 40 years, The Reading Hospital has educated women and men who have gone on to practice surgical technology both in our community and around the nation. The Surgical Technology Program is based within the School of Health Sciences, located on the Hospital’s main campus in West Reading, Pennsylvania.
The Surgical Technology Program is affiliated with Kutztown University. Biological sciences and English composition are taught at the School by Kutztown University faculty.

With 120 surgeons in 11 specialty fields and 150 nurses and surgical technologists, The Reading Hospital’s Department of Surgery performs over 34,800 operations each year. Procedures include open-heart surgery, hip replacements, cataract removals, and cerebral artery bypass procedures.
The Hospital’s suite of 29 operating rooms accommodates surgeons certified in cardiac, dental, general, gynecologic, neurologic, orthopedic, otolaryngologic, plastic, podiatric, thoracic and vascular, and urologic surgery. These surgical teams are supported by a large staff of anesthesiologists and certified nurse anesthetists, as well as by highly trained professionals in numerous associated departments.
The Department also operates two very busy outpatient surgery centers. One at the main Hospital campus in West Reading, and the other at The Reading Hospital SurgiCenter at Spring Ridge.
